I dont have a tumblr & your askbox doesnt allow anon so im submitting it through here. I hope you dont mind; I really love your blog!
it was a simple shop but honestly I think Korra looks more like herself when she has darker hair and skin; I barely recognized her in yr submission
also people seem to have trouble w/ lighting. Here ( http://i.imgur.com/iiaYA.jpg ) is a tut for skintones. :)CC: BLESS THIS MUTHAFUCKIN SUBMISSION
Because I see the bullshit reblogs and the wack ass explanations and I’m not even going to bother because those whiteness-upholding assholes can stay pressed.
As you can see in the photo, illumination is expressed AND THE SHADOWS ON KORRA’S FACE PORTRAY HER UNILLUMINATED SKIN COLOR.
WHICH IS BROWN
BROWN
Light makes skin lighter.
You bitches must live on the fucking Sun.
This would be more correct if there were spots on her cheeks that were really light/orangey/yellow/red to reflect the flame, but based on the way it was originally colored, this is as correct as it’s gonna get.
^^^^
Oh my god, you guys did not just recolor this person’s art. That’s so rude.
From the stand point of this POC, there was nothing wrong with the original art. Nothing.
… Jesus Christ man did they really recolor someone else’s art without their permission??? And no I’m not a “whiteness-upholding asshole” but that’s the most disrespectful thing you can ever do to an artist no matter what. This isn’t even about race or anything but showing off like “HERE THIS IS HOW IT’S SUPPOSED TO LOOK” and shoop over that person’s art when they’re not asking for crit is just as bad as slapping them in the face. I’m not for white washing at all, but I’m definitely against artists shooping up another person’s art because it’s “not correct”.
Ew… ew ew ew ew why is this even happening. I can’t believe how angry I am about this when I was trying to be so patient.
Forget the whole situation. You can think whatever you want about my supposed “whitewashing”. It was never my job to tell you what to think. I only care that you just recolored something I spent hours on. This has got to be the most offensive thing anyone’s ever done to me.
Her hands were supposed to be IN the fire… now she looks like she’s wearing like… fire handcuffs or something… and the hair… just… why…
im so sorry this happened to you :c
wow
fucking
rude
jesus christ how awful are people going to be over this!
Wow, Tumblr.
This is a new low for you.
Congratulations. You deserve a trophy for the occasion.
It’s a penis.wow i’ve had people ‘fix up’ my own art and i have to say, it’s incredibly disrespectful and just downright nasty and rude. you spend hours working on something you’re proud of, only to have someone steal it from you and then completely fuck it up. DTWP and DLOTB are seriously fucking out of line here in this scenario sry2say. and they STILL don’t understand how lighting or stylization works in terms of art.
tbh i’d like to see anything DTWP has drawn, seeing as they were so adamant about shutting down anything really talented artists who understand color theory had to say about this whole stupid debacle.
… The hey? There’s absolutely no reflection from the fire on her skin, except for that one hand. So it looks like her head and upper arm all belong in another picture. One with soft, diffused uplighting.
I think some of the people saying ‘Must be whitewashing can’t be lighting’ just don’t understand that there are DIFFERENT KINDS OF LIGHT, and different kinds of light have different effects upon different things. And the light source the person doing the recolouring is thinking of is NOT the light source in the picture.
There was even a guy who posted photographs of light changing the apparent colour of his skin and hair, and it matched up pretty well.
This is just… I mean, it’s rude, but it’s also just… bad. It just looks bad.
Yeah, this correction is completely off. The original was fine!
Those are white-hot flames, and they are right next to her face (and on top of her hands!). At that distance, ANY skin color will get washed out. If I turned this into a pure tonal piece, her face should be made up of tones equivalent to 0-20% gray with some 60%-80% tones for the shadows (which would be at a minimum, because both sides of her face are getting a lot of light). But as this correction stands, all the tones are muddled 30%-40%. That’s not dramatic enough for that kind of light!
Also, the colors are too neutral. There needs to be a lot more saturated oranges and reds in there. What people need to keep in mind is that skintone is a neutral color which is easily affected by the color of the light, the environment, costuming, etc. It is never consistently the same color- especially in dramatic lighting/environments like this one!
Also there are no sharp highlights. I mean. COME ON. Her face is going to be shiny when she’s THAT CLOSE TO FIRE. WHERE ARE THE WHITE HIGHLIGHTS ON THE PLANES OF HER FACE? AAAAUGH!!
Okay I’m done.
